Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain. Symptoms appear within the first three years of a child’s life, but diagnosis may not be made until much later. There is no clear medical test to diagnose and the diagnosis relies on regular screenings throughout a child’s development. The condition impacts how a person perceives and socializes with others, causing problems in social interaction and communication. The disorder also includes limited and repetitive patterns of behavior. The term “spectrum” in autism spectrum disorder refers to the wide range of symptoms and severity.
