"Mother of Neuroblastoma"

Dr. Audrey Evans developed the Evans Staging System for neuroblastoma, the most common of the solid childhood cancers. The Evans Staging System determines the progression of the disease to determine what treatments should be used.

The system lowered the mortality rate of the disease by about 50%.  Currently, the survival rate is over 85%.

Evans is known as a pioneer in the clinical study and treatment of childhood cancers.

Evans also believed that parents of young patients undergoing cancer treatment would benefit from a "home-away-from-home" so she was the driving force behind the first Ronald McDonald House, which opened in Philadelphia in 1974.  Today, there are more 600 houses in over 60 countries.

Evans' story has been turned into a film, "Audrey's Children," opening March 28, 2025.
